How to improve 5302 RAID CARD performance?
My server ML530G2 (5302 raid card,6 X 18.2 disk )
Which configuration raid card performance is better?
A Six disks on one scsi channel to make a raid 5.
B three disks on each channel, six disks make a raid 5.
Which one is better ? A or B ?
B performane is double than A?

Re: How to improve 5302 RAID CARD performance?
Hi JiangC
I don't believe you will gain extra performance using A or B. I do believe that you will achieve more resilience by using the two channels, if you were to use RAID 1. You could gain more performance by using RAID 0 which means you have the greatest capacity and performance but no resilience to failure. RAID1+0 could give you resilience & performance at the expense of reducing capacity. But I'm not sure whether the 5302 allows you to setup RAID1+0? Either way, you must weigh up available space verses, perfmormance and fault-tolerance. Goodluck.

Re: How to improve 5302 RAID CARD performance?
It sure helps to put 3 disks on Channel A and 3 disks on Channel B and create one Array in RAID5.
In this way, you can use both channels at the same time since the data is striped on all 6 disks, giving you a theoretical pferformance of 2 x 160MB/s. In practice, it will not double the performance but certainly boost it.
