How to increase disk capacity with RAID

Hi,
Last year we installed a Proliant ML350 server.
There are 2 SCSI-cards installed.

First card has 2 'main' drives in RAID 1/0, on which OS and data are stored. the drives are fixed 3.5" in the 'fixed'-drive bay, which is now fully occupied.

The 2nd scsi-card is connected to the hot-swappable drive bay. There are 2 hot swappable drives installed, which we use for backup.

Question : we need extra space on the fixed 'main' drives.
I thought of installing a 3rd identical drive, and switching from RAID 1/0 to RAID 5.
But there is no space left in the drive bay to install a 3rd fixed drive.
What is our best option ?

Re: How to increase disk capacity with RAID

Hi Thomas,

Could you tell us which generation server it is ?? I mean a ML350G1 or G2 or G3? If i am not mistaken the fixed slots which you are pointing are one of those which is like the CD-ROm and the FDD slot. If yes then I really don`t think you will be able to upgrade as you can only use 2 of them, I am not sure if you can remove the CD-Rom and then install the 3rd disk. And I believe the 2 hot swap slots will be still empty(G1 model).

Re: How to increase disk capacity with RAID

Hi,

Thanx for your reply. Our server is a G4p model.
I don't want to remove the CD-rom.
The hot-swap drive bay has 5 bays, where 2 of them are used.
Can you recommend something?
