How to install ESXi 4.1 on 2.5 TB Datastore?

Hello.

I hope someone can help me. I bought a DL380 G6 Server with 10 Harddrives (300 GB SAS)
With the SmartCD i put all the harddrives together and made a Raid 5. After than i could not install the ESXi from the CD. Maybe there is a problem with the Raid, because it is bigger as 2 TB ? I heard that some servers doesn't support more as 2 TB, if you want boot from that?

Hello,
yes you are right...
The max size is 2TB minus 512 bytes, or 512 bytes less than 2TB. So create smaller lun, o try to create 2 luns...

Re: How to install ESXi 4.1 on 2.5 TB Datastore?

My Solution was:

I created a Disk Array (Raid5) with all Harddrives. After than i created a 2 TB logical drive (Raid5) and a second 450 GB logical drive (Raid5). After i installed the ESXi on the 2 TB Harddrive, i extended the first Datastore with the 450 GB from the second logical drive. You can do it in the Configuration Tab of ESXi. After that i had one Datastore with 2.45 TB
