How to keep a ML370 Running when the system board fails

When the multiple fan failure occurs on a ML370 that requires the system board to be replaced, you can keep the system running by a simple application of duct tape and shop vac. All it takes is enough output air pressure to spin the two front fans and one of the rear fans will start operating from the bad system board. This allows enough operation to get the system backed up or be used 'normally' until HP can get the part out.

Hi Robert,

That's quite ingenious. The fan problem is a well known one with the ML370 G3. Sometimes if you are lucky simply removing the redundant fans is enough to allow the fan logic to work. You only really need all 6 fans when you have both cpu's, fully populated memory dimm slots and lots of PCI devices.

Keep fans 1,3 and 5 and remove fans 2,4 and 6 to see if this works. If the fan logic circuit is damaged beyond repair this won't make any difference however.

Thank you. This may be a lifesaver in my case. All of the G3 ML370's we sold in 2003 are demonstrating the same failure pattern. The one in the attached photo had to run in this state for two weeks until we could locate a new system board or replace the server.
