How to load XP home on Proliant ML370

I have a ML370 that I am trying to load XP Home on. XP cannot find the hard drives even though I load the controller driver. The driver I install is the the Compaq Smart Array Controller 431 driver downloaded from here - http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/storage/us/download/23431.html . I had read that W2K Pro finds the drives and I tried an old upgrade CD and it does indeed find the drives just fine. It makes it all the way to needing the product key - which I don't have. Does anyone know which driver I'm missing? I'm not wanting to install Linux or any other OS because I don't have the time to learn them. Thanks in advance, Steve

Re: How to load XP home on Proliant ML370

Hi Steve

Unfortunatelly XP will not work on ProLiants since none of our drivers were made to work with said OS In order for you to confirm what I'm saying you can go to this page: http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache/458915-0-0-0-121.html

And if your server is a G1 in this page are the drivers for every supported OS
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/family/model/1119.html?submit.y=0&submit.x=0тМй=en&cc=us

Now if you still want to try XP you have to create the a RAID and then a logical drive, once that is created the Installation will be able to see the drives therefore no drivers are needed, however I'm 100% sure you'll get BSOD during the installation and if it finishes you'll have OS errors and a lot of boot errors as well.
You heve a question... I have an aswer!!!

Re: How to load XP home on Proliant ML370

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping just about any 32 bit driver would work. I even tried loading the Dual Channel Wide Ultra2 SCSI controller and, as you are well aware of, it didn't work. I did see this other matrix that listed the non-G series ML370 at this location... http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache/461235-0-0-0-121.html . I was hoping any 32 bit driver might work. Oh well, I guess now I'll see if I can find a legitimate copy of W2K Pro on Ebay. Thanks again.

Re: How to load XP home on Proliant ML370

Hi Steve,

Don't give up just yet with XP. The Windows 2000 driver kit you originally downloaded is missing the TXTSETUP.OEM file. Compaq realised this later and issued a fix including the missing file but it isn't well advertised.

I have attached the zip file you need to this reply.

Try it and see if it allows you to load the 431 driver properly this time and see the attached disks.

I hope this helps.
