How to lower the scsi-bus on smart array 6i

I have a problem with a tape drive on my server DL380 G4 smart array 6i. I have to lower the bus speed. How do i do this. For the external connection on the tape. Or is it a general speed and if so, how do i do that.

Would really need some info on this.

Normally, bus master (your SCSI adapter) should slow bus speed automatically to the mode, which is highest possible for the slowest device on bus - that's why it was not recommended to place fast devices(drives) with slow ones (e.g. scanners) on the same bus .

 As for 6i - it supports Ultra320, Ultra3, Ultra2 and Wide-Ultra = (320-160-80-40MB/s)

Re: How to lower the scsi-bus on smart array 6i

Not all smartarray controllers support tapes, but the 6i does (AFAIR tapes only, no libraries or autoloaders).

Fist I would check the controller firmware, driver and tape firmware for updates.

What kind of tape drive do you have?

Re: How to lower the scsi-bus on smart array 6i

I have problems whit Symatec Backup EXE 2010. And have a support ticket open there. They have told me to try and lower the scsi-bus to get rid of the problem. The problem is an error that i got "EventID: 11 The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Scsi\cpqcissm1". The answer symatec gave to me to try first was to lover the scsi-bus. So i have to know if that is possible or not.

Every firmware and driver is the latest from HP web site. And am running a HP StorageWorks Ultrium 1840 on a HP Proliant DL380 G4 server with the smart array 6i controller with external scsi-port.

This error happened the first time on the version of Backup EXE 12.5 when I run the Hotfix 336087 (the same problem). And from that day I have tried to update as soon there have been a major update like SP4 or the new version 2010 whit exactly the same error and result.

Thankful for some input on the scsi so i can go futher at symantec.

Re: How to lower the scsi-bus on smart array 6i

The HP ProLiant DL380 G4 (Retired) does not have a suitable integrated SCSI controller for connecting the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 1840 SCSI . Please use one of the following compatible HBAs:

374654-B21 - HP Single Channel Ultra320 SCSI PCI-X HBA G2
