How to reduce noise level of DL320, and disk cloning
Hey gurus,
We've just purchased 8 DL320 for web serving, and upon building and configuring the 1st one, l've found that the 4 30mm fans between the Hard drives and the cpu, are creating quite a racket.
Is there a way to slow them down somewhat for a better balance between temp and noise? A bios option perhaps?
l build quite PC's for a hobby and know that smaller fans have to spin much faster to generate a cooling breeze than a simillar but larger diameter fan, but these little guys are other the top, especially once l get all 8 servers up and running.
Thanks in advance,
Al

Re: How to reduce noise level of DL320, and disk cloning
You need to install the latest Compaq Support Pack for your operating system. If you installed the OS with a current Smart Start CD, this is installed automatically. Otherwise you will need to download it.
Once the Support Pack is installed, when the server is powered up or rebooted, the fans will be noisy for a few seconds during POST - then you will hear a distinct "reving" down.
Let us know how it goes...

Re: How to reduce noise level of DL320, and disk cloning
Thanks for your help gents.
The specific patch required is:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/16849.html
Once l had installed hpasm the fans slowed down to acceptable levels.
My ears thank you for your assistance.
