How to run 3 1/2" LFF SAS drives in a 2 1/2" SFF slot on a DL385-G7?

I have an odd problem, we want to trial a ZeusRAM SSD as a ZIL device but they only come in 3 1/2" LFF SAS and all our servers (DL385-G7) take SFF SAS disks.  Upgrading to LFF drive cages is prohibitivly expensive. I thought I'd get away using a 29-pin M-F SAS extension cable but it doesn't seem to work - I can't even get a standard 2 1/2" SFF SAS disk to run thru the extension cable. I'm not sure where to go next. I assume anything I try is going to be unsupported by HP but if we can get the performance increases they advertise with this SSD it's worth a go.

Can I connect straight into the internal mini-SAS connector on the mobo?

Any ideas?

thanx,
