How to setup a DL320 with SmartStart and SATA RAID 1 enabled

Hi all

We are likely confused...
Since SmartStart 4.70 (or even earlier) it was very easy to setup a new ProLiant Server.
Now we bought two DL320 with two SATA 70GB Disks and try to setup them.
We did enable the RAID1 in the RBSU.
--> SmartStart 7.30 and 7.40 did not accept any boot disks. (0GB available, controller not supported)
We disabled the RAID1 in the RBSU.
--> SmartStart found the first disk (75GB, Controller accepted.
--> So we were going ahead and try to configure the RAID with the ACU
----> controller not supported by ACU.

What will be the right way to get those DL320 running with a SATA RAID1 ?
We did'nt found any hint in the documentations packed with the server, maybe we over-read it?

Best regards and many thenks

Michel

Re: How to setup a DL320 with SmartStart and SATA RAID 1 enabled

Thanks for your response!

What I forgot: the question turns around a DL320 G3, not a G2.
We had set up only one G2 and didn't hit this problem with it....

What I also didn't clearly mention:
With SS the controller is reported as "not supported by this version of SmartStart"..

Sorry for confusing

None of the SATA servers use Smart Start CD, for initial Setup only to load Utilities that normally done with Proliant Support Pack. You can use Setup Cd if it comes with Server or Use F6 to load Driver during O/S Install, prior configure Array from SATA ROM either R0 or R1.

Thanks for this answer.
That's exactly what we are doing actually :-(
Is there any document, which describes this "incompatibility" with the "normal" SS Procedure?

Thanks in advance

Re: How to setup a DL320 with SmartStart and SATA RAID 1 enabled

If SATA raid is not enabled in the RBSU, then you can actually use Smart Start with this (which is why it works on a DL360 G4 SATA model). If you need to configure a SATA array, then it will not work. Take a look at page 36 of the user guide:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00290215/c00290215.pdf
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

Hi all

Thank you very much for your assistance.
Now we are able to argue with our management, why it tokes a little longer to setup those new boxes :-)

Quit great support in here!!
