Hello,
I have a new job at a company using a DL380p Gen8 server ROM 2/10/2014, ILO version 2.00, and P420i Controller firmware 6.00. 1 Logical drive at 5029 GB RAID 5 (7 physical drives at 838GB each).
There is an 8th drive in bay 8 that I was asked to replace because the HDD drive status LED was solid orange indicating a bad drive.
I replaced it with same type of drive and there are no LED lights which would indicate it is a hot spare, according to this article.

This server is running ESXi 5.5 and I do not want to reboot it. I am looking for a way to confirm it is a hot spare without reboot. I look in ILO but does not see the 8th physical drive (understood according to ILO note on storage page). I am also using the hpssacli utility commands but no indication of hot spare status for drive bay 8.
Any other suggestions besides a reboot into SSA?
Thanks,
