Hp Microserver gen 8 - System Power Fault Detected

Hello,

yesterday suddenly my HP MicroGen8 server did not start, flashing lights in red and in iLo i saw the error:

System Power Fault Detected (XR: 20 00 MID: FF F5 FE 01 FF FF FF 06 06 00 00 02 00 05 40 10 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00)

It tries to start, the fans work (PSU and power fan) buy stop.

I've tried to  reinstall the BIOS from iLO with no success (I can install diferents versions od iLO but when I try to install a System ROM, the error is "The last firmware update attempt was not successful. Ready for the next update" I think to update BIOS first it has to be booted and this is why I can't update the BIOS. Anyway I don┬┤t know it the error is related to BIOS.

System ROM version appears as "undefined", main and backup also "undefined"

Please, could anyone give me any idea on how to resolve it?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
The error looks like it's pointing to SAS connector or backplane.
As you are not able to flash the System ROM, I request you to clear NVRAM once and try flashing the ROM. If it did not fix, I recommend you to please log a warranty case with HPE support

I don't understand what if happened, las week I tried to clean the dust inside the motherboard and after that the server did not power up any more...I did the clean with a very soft brush, so I don't know why now the system does't power up.

Hi

when you are trying to update the firmware from ILO, if you use an incorrect file, you will get the message " The last firmware update attempt was not successful. Ready for the next update. " Please verify from the below link that you are using the correct BIOS file.

Drivers & software | Online ROM Flash Component for Windows - HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 (J06) Servers (hpe.com)

The above is for is for windows, you need to download the file and extract it to a folder. The extracted folder contains CPQJ0613.684 file which is actually the BIOS file. You need to upload this file to the ILO to flash the BIOS. Please verify if the same file is used to flash the firmware from ILO. if not please try it.

Do you see any abnormal messages in IML apart from System Power Fault ?
If no, please raise a warraty case with HPE, there might be a chance of system board failure.

Re: Hp Microserver gen 8 - System Power Fault Detected

That's the file I've tried to flash but I get the same error. The system tries to power up, starts the fan for one second and stop flashing red led. No messages on the screen. I can update iLO firmware without any problem but not system Bios. It seems it's no connection with the system board. I can access through ssh and I've updated also iLO firmware without error but flash system BIOS also with ssh give me the same error. I've bought the server in 2015 and warranty I think is over, buy a new board costs more than the whole server.

I can download the Active Health System Log, maybe inside there are more information but I don'd know how to analize that file.

Hi

Try attaching the AHS here. if not, to get complete analysis of the AHS, raise a support case. you can log a case without any warranty.later you can decide on the cost involved if there is any part replacement required.

Further decoding results in the voltage fault on the system board.  Please raise a case wtih HPE for board replacement.
