I notice this morning that one of our 3 hard drive is now showing a red light and I have been informed this means that our hard drive has failed?
It seems that the device actually failed back in Jan here is the log from the server:
POST Error: 1786-Drive Array Recovery Needed 6/15/2009 9:30AM 6/15/2009 9:30AM 1
2 POST Error: 1786-Drive Array Recovery Needed 3/2/2009 9:21AM 3/2/2009 9:21AM 1
3 POST Error: 1787-Drive Array Operating in Interim Recovery Mode 3/2/2009 7:08AM 3/2/2009 7:08AM 1
4 POST Error: 1787-Drive Array Operating in Interim Recovery Mode 2/27/2009 10:22PM 2/27/2009 10:22PM 1
5 POST Error: 1786-Drive Array Recovery Needed 1/19/2009 9:40AM 1/19/2009 9:40AM 1
6 POST Error: 1787-Drive Array Operating in Interim Recovery Mode 1/19/2009 7:09AM 1/19/2009 7:09AM 1
7 Drive Array Device Failure (Slot 3, Bus 1, Bay 1) 1/8/2009 7:13AM 6/27/2009 7:30AM 5
Would anyone be able to advise me on what I should be doing next. Is it a case of buying a new one and copying the data?
Or is there away of repairing the hard drive with out losing data? On restarting the server this morning it gave me the option of a automatic data rebuild, is this a wise thing to do or not?
It seems that the server is still running fine and the database on the server is running without any errors.
Any help would be great
Thanks
Steven

Solutionwhich raid card do you have in your server , ther e200i ? you should be able to replace the drive and the raid set will automatically rebuild. i hope you have up to date backups if you lose another disk you will probably lose your data, consider using acu to manage your storage :-

Re: Hp Proliant ML350 ML350 failed ultra scsi compaq hardrive
I believe I have "Smart Array 641 controller" sorry if this is not the correct information. If not would you you be able to point me in the right direction.
When I go and buy the new hard drive is it ok to get the same again (ultra3 scsi compaq 18.2 gb 10k) or do I need to get a bigger hard drive?
Thanks again

get one the same size, think about having a spare if you've a slot free, you can set that up in acu.

Re: Hp Proliant ML350 ML350 failed ultra scsi compaq hardrive
Is it as simple as taking the old one out and placing the new one in and then booting the server up and carrying out the automatic data rebuild prompt it brings up on start up?
Thanks
Steven
