I can't power off my server when selecting shutdown in the OS

My server's OS is windows server 2003 and model is ML 350 G3. If I select the shutdown to power off my server in the OS, the server's power isn't really off and enter OS again. But I can press the power button in the panel to turn off the power. Does anyone know the reason why it is and give me some comment to solve this issue?

Hi HOward,

You can try by Scan your server by anti virus and update service pack, update PSP (proliant support Pack)from www.hp.com.

Re: I can't power off my server when selecting shutdown in the OS

Hi Howard Chou,

There could be some SW/HW issue, to try check what is happening disable automatic restart in windows.

Goto My Computer -> Properties -> Advance -> Click on the Settings button for Startup and Recovery -> Uncheck Automatically Restart.

Also you could select the kind of memory dump required (Complete or Small).

Then try to shutdown the server and check if it gives any error. If it gives any error proceed based on the error log.

If no error and still server is restarting could be wake-on-lan(WOL) could be causing it. When server is going down remove the nic cable and check.

Still nogo better to run offline diagnostics on the server and check.

Regards,
Raj.
