I want to DECREASE drive size
We have a DL360 G3 server with mirrored 146G drives. In 3 years, w have only used 25G of space, and given the app it's in, if it goes to 40G I'd be very surprised.
Given that, we want to replace the 146G with 80G (go smaller). The 146G will be used elsewhere. I've read all the threads about *increasing* the disk size. Is it possible to *decrease* the disk size by replacing one drive in the mirror set, let it rebuild, then replace the other?
Would a backup and restore be better?

Failure is not an option.

Re: I want to DECREASE drive size
if you have the chance to make a full back-up and a restore, should be better.

Re: I want to DECREASE drive size
You must backup/restore. You cannot decrease drive size. If you replace the disk with a smaller one, it would not rebuild. The RAID controller does not know how full the file system is.

Re: I want to DECREASE drive size
also, you can do what you need in a single step:
clone your existing disk on another disk.
you can use a tool from Acronis, such as Acronis True Image.
