IBM disks on HP ProLiant? (U320)

I ran into eBay sell and the item had comment that [U320] disk has IBM firmware on it, and it might not work on other servers тАУ can it really be like that? Or am I safer buying HP branded disks.

Thank you

I have not personally tried it, but if you are using the SATA ports on the motherboard any drive should work. but if you are planning to use a HP RAID controller card, then yes, the hard drives must have supported firmware.

Unless IBM is doing somthing really odd in the firmware there isn't really any reason why they wouldnt work.  I've used HP branded drives in systems that are not HP servers
