ILO Management

I have 27 HP\Compaq servers, none of which are configured correctly for remote management. The reason for this being they were configured originally by someone else who left no login detail (or ILO serial tags). Any advice on how best to reset them all and configure the ILO's without going through them individually and reseting jumpers and what have you? I know this is a long shot but any help is greatly appreciated.

You don't need to reset the jumpers, but you do need to visit each server physically. Reboot the box then interrupt the boot with F8 to get into the ILO BIOS config. You can add/remove users and IP details there to your requirements.

The easiest way to reset your ilo's, especially that you do not know the account info, would probably be to reboot the servers one at at time.... and during boot up, you given the option to configure your ilo "Press F8". You do not need the user/password to modify anything... but you can change EVERYTHING.

There are some scripts you can use via windows and probably linux, but i am unsure if they require user/password.

When configuring iLo, they should be connected to a totally seperate network so that you can still get to them if your main network fails. It is ok to put them on your main network, but the whole purpose of the "Lights Out" theory is so you can get to the servers when the main network is unavailable.

If you have blade server, then you need to open the blade up and flip switch 1 to disable the password, login.. change password and switch back. DL's and ML's should be simple as they have a local console connection and usually don't require
switch intervention.

The utility HPONCFG for either Windows or Linux will allow you to update the configuration of all of your iLOs from the host system's OS without knowing any login credentials.
