Incorrent SCSI ID assignment on DL360-G4

Hi all,

after migrating a RAID1 Array to another server I have a faulty Array:

=> array A show
Array: A
Interface Type: Parallel SCSI
Unused Space: 0 MB
Status: Failed

This is probably caused by a changed SCSI ID assignment to the second (right-hand side) disk:

=> pd all show
array A (Failed)

physicaldrive 1:1 (port 1:id 1 , Parallel SCSI, 36.4 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 2:1 (port 2:id 1 , Parallel SCSI, ??? GB, Failed)

unassigned

physicaldrive 1:0 (port 1:id 0 , Parallel SCSI, 36.4 GB, OK)

I've been trying to assign the unassigned disk to the array (as a spare) but that won't work.

Any ideas how to recovery this array?

(pls find the ADU report attached)

Re: Incorrent SCSI ID assignment on DL360-G4

Hi Paul,

As per the information and the report, I feel that. On the previous server, duplex mode was used to storage and on this server it is simplex mode. Ensure that the scsi backplane is set to duplex mode and reinstall the drives back in the same slots how it was installed in the previous server and it should detect and work fine.

Raj.

Re: Incorrent SCSI ID assignment on DL360-G4

Hi Raj,

thanks for your quick reply. However, I'm not sure about the duplex setting you mention, and I haven't been able to find any documentation about that (yet).

Is this a hardware or a software switch/setting?

Re: Incorrent SCSI ID assignment on DL360-G4

Hi Paul,

It is a hardware setting done on the SCSI Backplane. When I checked for DL360 G4 it does not has the option for Duplex Backplane. DL380 G4 supports Simplex and Duplex settings. I have attached the DL380 G4 guide for reference check section - Cabling SCSI model cabling.

From Which server did you move the harddrives from.

Re: Incorrent SCSI ID assignment on DL360-G4

Raj,

the disks were cloned from a DL360 G1 (!).

Last night I found some information about changing the simplex/duplex mode on a DL380 G4, but, as you remarked, it's not applicable for a DL360. ( http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1036195&admit=-682735245+1164754039290+28353475 )

One other suggestion I found was to remove the disks, clear the controller's config, en re-insert the disks. Guess that might be the best option for now, or do you have another suggestion?

thanks,
Paul

Re: Incorrent SCSI ID assignment on DL360-G4

Resolved the problem by creating an image of the disk, destroy and recreate the array, and restored the image.
