Installation of Proliant DL380 Gen 8

Hello.

I work as a datacentre technician. I have mounted several servers of many manufacturers and models.

Until recently I have praised the mounting solutions for DL380 servers because of the ease of handling. But not anymore.

The design for mounting DL380 Gen 8 is a catastrophe. It's almost impossible to mount it on your own. Even when you are 2 persons mounting it's rather difficult.

I strongly urge HP to return to the mounting design from DL380 G7.

Are you using the low-end "friction" rails or the almost-as-low-end "ball bearing" rails? The latter are better than the former, though I sure can't find any ball bearings in them. Honestly they don't come close to the rails that Sun used on eg. the x4200.

Does your DC not have any sort of server lift?

The hand-crank models aren't all that outrageously priced, and really facilitate singlehanded mounting tasks
