Installing Win2003 on DL380 G1

Hi

I've been trying to install Win2003 on a DL380 Generation 1 without any success.
SmartStart 7.40 doesn't support this server, and 5.5 doesn't support Win2003.
Even using 5.5 with Win2000 option doesn't work. When I put Win2003 CD it just hangs. I've tried the same CD on newer servers with success.
Anyone has any ideas how can I arrange a workaround?

Hey Ricardo- you first need to be sure bios is at 12-22-03. use ss 5.50 and do a manual install. when you select os just choose w2000. set up raid and eisa partiton. reboots to create sys partition tyhenit will promt you to put in vendor cd. i have done this hunderedds of times. let me know if you get stuck. please assign points.

You cannot - there is no such BIOS version for DL380 G1
The last BIOS for DL380 G1 is
version 2002.12.18 B

and it have windows 2003 support

sorry- I fat fingered the bios date on my last post. but when you install it will post a date of 12.18.02. best just to run the 7.40B Firmware cd first before you install.

also, be sure you have at least 256mb of ram... and the ram is good.

Ricardo- one more thing i had thought of is to run "sys erase" first from the smart start cd before you install w2k3. it will wipe the server to a blank state, ready for os install.

Not working yet. Bios is ok. Started with SmartStart 5.5, but when system rebboots after asking for CD removal, it gives "non-system disk, etc, etc". Even with the win2003 standard edition CD.

Don't what is wrong....

Any other ideas?

hey Ricardo- what boot controller are you using and are you sure its set in the boot order? the older Dls have a system partition instead of the RBSU. be certain that when you are doing a "manual install" of smart start that you install the system partition and reflect what boot controller yorder you need. be certain you selct "manual install" instead of "assisted". it really sounds like your boot controller order is not right. you've got me curious now.
