Installing Windows 2000 via upgrade CD
Greetings. We purchased a windows 2000 server upgrade CD to upgrade our NT system. We wish to perform a clean install, but when attempted, the smartstart setup says that the upgrade functionality is disabled and can only upgrade an NT installation. Is this possible?
thanks,
Raul

Re: Installing Windows 2000 via upgrade CD
Hi Raul,
if you purchased a windows 2000 server upgrade cd then it will only install from an existing NT install..yes this should work fine you simply put the cd in with NT up and running and it wil upgrade it for you..however..before you start it is HIGHLY recommended that you run the primer utility from compaq at the following URL: http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/10776.html
then once you have finished the upgrade to 2000 go the following URL: http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/10249.html which is the compaq support paq for windows 2000...if you are going to install ny microsoft service packs for windows 2000 then install them before the compaq support paq BUT do not reboot at the end of that install ..instead run the suport paq first right after the service pack install and then reboot
