Installing Windows 2003 Standard R2 on a Proliant 5500 Server Quad Core
I have a Proliant 5500 Quad Core Xeon Server. I am trying to install Windows 2003 R2. After many attempts at upgrading the firmware to a version that displays install options for at least windows 2000, I cannot get all four processors to work under ACPI Multiprocessor HAL. According to Compaq, upgrading to the 11/8/2000 BIOS and 2.48A system configuration utility will make more O/S install options possible. However, after installing both, the latest OS i can install is Windows NT. I have not yet tried selecting Windows NT, but I do know that when I select other, install Windows 2000 as a test, and then select ACPI Multiprocessor HAL, the system crashes. I tried downloading SmartStart 5.50 from the internet, which was useless. I have not yet tried installing Win2003 R2 and do not want to risk wasting my license if the system does not recognize the other three processors.
