Installing windows 2008 server on dl320 g5p

Really stuck on this one.

Enabled sata raid in bios
Created mirror raid with 2 drives
Did a build
Checked boot on raid

everything checks ok

Tried smartstart 7.9 -> no boot drive
Read smartstart 7.9 -> no support for Sata raid on this server
Downloaded smartstart 8.0 -> no boot drive

Downloaded firmware 8.0 -> everything up to date

Installing windows server 2008 x64 -> no drives
loading drivers -> no supported hardware
cp07704
installing windows server 2008 x86 -> no drives
loading drivers -> no supported hardware
cp008249

Disabling virutal disk in bios had no effect.

Did the same thing for a w2003 install on identical server, no additional drivers needed.

Hi,

if you use the onboard SATA controller, not a Smart Array you can't use smartstart assisted install. Since there seem to be no driver available for W2k8(either edition) you can try with Virtual Install Disk(seems that you already tried) ot to try win2003 driver for the embedded SATA controller...

If someone did the install succsfully can say which driver did he use

Re: Installing windows 2008 server on dl320 g5p

yes

as previous answer for embedded SATA controller you can use smartstart because those controllers do not support smartsmart

so using W2008 you have to insert driver for your controller using USB key.

W2008 X32 drivers, it says W2003 but it works for W2008

now for W2008 X64, it says W2003 x64, but like previous it works for W2008 x64

try and let us know

Thanx Karlo, got it working now on x64 (bit confusing installing a driver in subfolder amd for a xeon system).

Only had to update 2 drivers manually.

How did you succeed? I have loaded the x64 AMD (btw it says Adaptec SATA/RAID drives) drivers but when I choose disk to install Win 2008 x64 installation scripts tells me that it can't determine if the system contains a valid system drive.

I can make partitions and format them.

Re: Installing windows 2008 server on dl320 g5p

Change the boot order so that the hard drive starts first... USB keys aren't liked too toughly on Win2008.
