Integrated Management Display under FreeBSD or Linux

I guess this has been done to death, but can anyone point me to documentation about driving the Management Display (LCD) on a Proliant 2500 or 5500?

If the details of the hardware are all that's available I'm happy to try writing code. Don't want to do anything fancy, just make the display useful.
