Is it safe to install rhel7u4-tagged packages from SPP/FWPP-Repo on RHEL 7.3 systems?

We have some systems with fixed RHEL minor releases (via Red Hat EUS channels) like RHEL 7.3 EUS.

We are using the official HP repositories to update our HP packages and firmwares (e. g. http://downloads.linux.hpe.com/SDR/repo/spp/rhel/7.3Server/x86_64/current for a RHEL 7.3 EUS system).

In this repository we find packages with a "rhel7u4" (or "rhel7u1" or "rhel7u2") tag, e.g.:

  • kmod-hpsa-3.4.18-105.rhel7u0.x86_64.rpm
  • kmod-hpsa-3.4.18-105.rhel7u1.x86_64.rpm
  • kmod-hpsa-3.4.18-105.rhel7u2.x86_64.rpm
  • kmod-hpsa-3.4.18-105.rhel7u3.x86_64.rpm
  • kmod-hpsa-3.4.20-100.rhel7u2.x86_64.rpm
  • kmod-hpsa-3.4.20-100.rhel7u3.x86_64.rpm
  • kmod-hpsa-3.4.20-113.rhel7u3.x86_64.rpm
  • kmod-hpsa-3.4.20-113.rhel7u4.x86_64.rpm

Does this tag mean that these packages are only for RHEL 7.4 (or 7.0-7.2) or is it safe (and supported) to install them on a RHEL 7.3 system?

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. The mentioned driver was just a example. There are many other packages with these tags. Does this behavior also apply to the other packages?
