Issue with Windows Server 2003, SP2, and Gigabit Ethernet NIC Cards

We installed HP ProLiant DL380 G4 servers with Gigabit EN's. Once installed and booted up, the NIC boots up much quicker than Spanning Tree and - basically will not connect to the domain controller and process GPO. The action is aborted.
Our interim solution is to enable portfast - however, Network will not allow us to do this across the enterprise. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? Microsoft describes the problem at

Hi Gerald,

This seems to be the problem with the network driver rather than the hardware failure. You can give try updating the NIC driver.
