KVM cable for BL20p G2

Hi all,

I've got 2 chassis full of Proliant BL20p G2's and I've found that for some reason, one lot of them takes a different type of KVM breakout cable to the others. I need to order the correct one but I have no idea what the part number is. The one I'm missing appears to have a smaller connector then the ones I have (HP Local I/O Crossover SUVI Cable - 355935-001)

Can anyone tell me what the part number is for the other one?

The cable you are missing, is the old type. Wich don't offer you KVM access.
You will get a NIC connector for front access to the ILo, and a serial connetor only.
I don't know the use for the serial connector, but it's either a command line interface for the ILo, or a service port.

the spare part no is 270465-001.

Found the serial port usage.
It's a: Windows debug connector (semilar to a serial port for OS debugging).

No wonder, why i never had use for it.

The front ILoaccess is nice to have.

Ok, that's pretty dumb that HP don't have a cable that does KVM for this model! If you don't have an OS configured and iLO isn't connected then you're out of luck :(

Re: KVM cable for BL20p G2

Well no need for being unhappy.
The ILo do it all for you.

As i wrote you, the cable you're asking for is the old type. Meaning that the KVM is an added feature. Nice to have, if only the customer got a monitor and power for it, and USB mouse and keyboard.

Connect a laptop througt the front. The cable got an override IP address.
Set the laptop to match the override.
And connect using an internet browser.
You will need sun java only, 1.5 will work.
No drivers needed!
No OS needed on the blade.
The factory default password, is printet on a label on the back of the server.
If the password has been changed, and you don't know the new password, then use the security override switch (Check the inside of the lid).
Notice, user account and pw is case sencetive.

Go and explore the ILo, you can do everithing with it:
Virtual power.
Virtual Media.
Various console options.
Access to logs.
Admin of the ILo it self.

Cheers
