Linux cloning from DL360 G3.

Hi all. I have the server DL360 G3 with two SCSI 36 GB disks in the mirror. I need replacement the 36 GB disks by the 72 GB disks and to clone the all date to the new disks. How do this correct?

Re: Linux cloning from DL360 G3.

Assuming the disk drives are behind a SmartArray controller, you can use a (little) dangerous trick:

- ensure you have a full backup
- remove one 36GB disk drive
- put in a new 72GB disk drive
- wait for the rebuild to complete
- check again that the rebuild is complete ;-)
- remove the other 36GB disk drive
- put in the other 72GB disk drive
- again, wait for the rebuild to complete

The data is now on the new disks. If you check with ACU, you'll see that there is unused space at the end. You can use the space to create a new logical disk or you can extend the existing logical disk. This can take quite some time - check the priority settings on the controller.

Of course, the partition table on the disk is unaltered - if you check it, you'll see that there is free space at the end of the disk.
