Linux install on Proliant ML330 G3

I need to install a Linux distro in a Proliant ML330 G3 server (ATA-IDE RAID). I have tried to install Gentoo, Suse and RedHat 8.0, but the setup program is unable to see the hard Disk (Only RH 8 recognices the hard disk, but is unable to access to the partition table).

How can I install a Linux disto in this server ?

Can I connect the HD to the ATAPI-IDE controller (with the Cd-Rom) and then boot from the hard drive ? (I only can boot from Cd)
