Logical Drive Recovery - DL380 G3
Proliant DL380 G3
Smart Array 5i Controller
Initial problem:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: CPQCISSE
Event Category: None
Event ID: 24597
Date: 30/07/2009
Time: 03:50:30
User: N/A
Computer: 12345678
Description:
Physical Drive on DEVICE ID 3 on Port 2 of
Array Controller [Embedded] has failed.
Failure Code: 0x0d.
Replaced this disk (ID 3), but the array could not recover, due to a read error on another disk (ID 2):
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: CPQCISSE
Event Category: None
Event ID: 24603
Date: 07/08/2009
Time: 13:46:07
User: N/A
Computer: 12345678
Description:
Recovery of logical drive 2, configured on
Array Controller [Embedded], was aborted while rebuilding physical drive with DEVICE ID 3 on Port 2 due to an unrecoverable read error. The physical drive reporting the error is DEVICE ID 2 on Port 2.
I've updated the ACU and ADU to most recent versions. ADU report is attached. ADU seems to confirm some sector problems with disk ID 2.
Logical Drive 2 (RAID 5) is the server's data drive. (Logical Drive 1 contains the O/S and is fine)
Seems quite similar to this thread:

My question is on progress from here. I'm planning on updating the controller firmware. Then (having backed up data) should I delete and recreate the logical drive? Should I also replace the disk with the read errors before this?

Re: Logical Drive Recovery - DL380 G3
Hello,
If you have a backup i would suggest you replace the broken drive/drives and recreate array from scratch to be sure it works 100% fine

The difference between ordinary and extraordinary, is that little extra.

Re: Logical Drive Recovery - DL380 G3
Ok thanks for response. Was able to resolve this by deleting and recreating the logical drive. Did not delete/recreate the array. Created the new partition in the O/S and restored data. All working fine since.
