Low Throughput for One Partition on Server

Dear Forumers,
My company has recently purchased a Proliant ML110 G3 server with the purpose of using it as an application developmnent server (web - IIS & windows). Recently, we have included this server into our daily backup schedule. What I have discovered seems to be abnormal; the backup througput for the C: partition is 250MB/min whereas the throughput the D: partition is less than 100MB/min. All program installation is done on C: partition while data files are store on D: partition. The server's NIC is GBit. Can anyone explain what is wrong? How can I go about to rectify this problem? Solving this is important because my backup cannot be completed within the defined time window.

You will typically find a large amount of small files back up a lot slower than a couple of large files.
Would this account for the issue?

Re: Low Throughput for One Partition on Server

Have you tried running %SystemRoot%\System32\dfrg.msc for a disk defrag?
Fragmented files can cause longer read access times.

Tnks.
