MAC Address finding on HW

Hello all,

Is there a way that I can findout the MAC address of LAN card before installing the OS,
The reason I am asking is that I need to ignite a vPar from an existing ignite copy from other vPar.
If you know an easier way to do this please advise.

my idea was to copy the contents of
/var/opt/ignite/clients/0x00!!!!!! to
/var/opt/ignite/clients/0x00 NEW

Thanks

Re: MAC Address finding on HW

Well most NICs have the Mac address printed on the card. I'm not certain about the embedded NICs.

Re: MAC Address finding on HW

There's two ways I'd do this depending upon your need. If it's not embedded, I'd just stick the card into my desktop, it's a quick and dirty way of doing it.

If not, I'd create a quick and dirty DOS boot disk and stick ipconfig on there, if you do ipconfig -all it shows you the MAC Address under the Physical Adapter section.

If you use Ghost, that's an easy way of creating dos boot disks if you have not done so before.

You have just to power up your server and to look into the Bios. The MAC Adresses from Nics are documented there.
