ML-110 G4 - GRAPHIC CARD

My IT guys suggested I get a ML-110 G4 server as a workstation - seeing it needs to be switched on 24/7. But now, I want to install a new graphic card with better performance, preferably 512 MB, my "IT guys" are clueless. Can anyone advise me on this matter; i.e what brand etc. etc.

Thanks!

Re: ML-110 G4 - GRAPHIC CARD

Thanks!

Being mostly ignorant on any IT matters, isn't 128 MB pretty basic - I mean even slower than the OEM graphic card already in the ML-110 G4, or am I missing something?

Thks, Andre

Re: ML-110 G4 - GRAPHIC CARD

Hello Andre,

The original is the Integrated 2MB video controller .. VGA !
h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/archives_North_America/12577_na_v3/12577_na.PDF

& the ATI FireGLâ ¢ V3300 graphics card has 128MB of graphics memory, which is pretty decent one.

Re: ML-110 G4 - GRAPHIC CARD

Fantastic!

I really should understand better what I'm working on - for 10 hrs/day!

Now all I need to do is to find one here in Dubai.

Thanks again for your help!

Re: ML-110 G4 - GRAPHIC CARD

One last question:

What do I have to look for, if I can't get the ATI FireGL V3300? Is there something specific?

Thanks again, Andre

Re: ML-110 G4 - GRAPHIC CARD

Andre, As far as I recall, there used to be a GRAY market, where such electronic parts were available for WHOLESALE !! lol !

I would suggest you get in touch with a localite there... they will guide you to the right place. Someone from your company perhaps.

;)

Re: ML-110 G4 - GRAPHIC CARD

Andre, HP sells also workstations, designed for CAD / graphics work. If you are going to purchase an ATI FireGL or Nvidia Quadro card, which will cost more than $1000, why stick it inside a ML110 G4, where it's not supported?
Also, ML110 G4 only has (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12577_div/12577_div.HTML)

Two PCI-Express slots (x4 and x8, both in an x8 connector).

And the PCI-Express graphic cards come with a x16 connector which won't fit.
