ML 110 g3 will not install xp

Help... I have a new ml110 g3 server with mirrored raid sata drives, I put in the windows xp pro cd (I have also tried xp home, and xp sp2 cd's)and re-boot, it starts the cd rom drive, then it says it is checking hardware, then nothing, the cd stops spinning, and the screen stays black...

not that happy blue color that asks you to install windows. I have the latest bios, and it seems to work with ubuntu linux. any sugestions?

thanks.

Hi Paul,

any 3 party HW installed? if possible run minimal config!

When Ubuntu starts there maybe is an issue with the cds Are this org. CDs or backups? like selfmade pre-configured windows CD?

Re: ML 110 g3 will not install xp

Hello,

thanks for the followup, but nothing has been added to the machine, I have all the unused hardware turned off in the bios (usb) and I have also tried it with a 2mb pci trident video card with the onboard video disabled. -- I am using a freshly opened retail windowsxp pro from Best Buy.

and I keep getting the same results. windows says "checking hardware" and then a black screen. cd stops spinning and then nothing. I cant even ctrl - alt - del to reboot.

I think you forgot to load a driver for the raid controller!

Re: ML 110 g3 will not install xp

Hi... well as you all may know already none of the XP versions are supported with any ProLiant Server, you can check the following matrix

http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/windows/index-ml.html

Also check the following URL to download drivers for the mentioned server

Re: ML 110 g3 will not install xp

In other words, you CAN install XP in your server, BUT all the drivers are made for other OSs different than XP, so if you install drivers for W2K3 in the XP system, chances for the drivers to work properly are minimum, as you can see, XP tested but NOT SUPPORTED.

Anyway, why don't you install a supported OS so that you can avoid headaches, and painful and stressful nice blue screens?

Chill
