ML 150 G3, Smart array 5300 and MSA500

Hi

I have an ML150 G3 server where I reasently bout a Smart Array 5300 controller so I could connect it to and MSA 500 G1 I had.
But When I Start the ML150 with the MSA500 connected the server freezes when it comes to the SA5300 post.
If I disconnect the MSA500 boot the server hitting F8 when SA5300 asks for it the server freezes.
If I disconnected start the server and let i boot it boots, with out problem.
If I the takes the card, at puts it in an IBM x335 server I get the F8 prompt at I can get in to the BIOS.
But then it tells me that there is no physical disks. (There is now for test only 1 in).

Can somebody help me?

I have plug-in 3 more Hard disks, and now i looks like the dives are rebuilding because the activity diodes are flashing constantly.

But still the same, the ML150 freezes.

hi,

neither the MSA nor the controller are compatible with the server, take it in consideration.

Re: ML 150 G3, Smart array 5300 and MSA500

Hi

okay. thanks for the answer.
I'm not sure where to look on the link you sent, but I believe you.

Is it possible to make it work on a non-HP system?
e.g. the mentioned IBM x335 or a IBM x346.
Or is a HP server required?

Re: ML 150 G3, Smart array 5300 and MSA500

Hi, here are 3 factors that need to be taken in account.

1) The ML150 G3 is a low, entry level server. Its a PC with steroids which by the way a already old.

2) The SA 5300 is really really Old, not compatible with any 100 series.

3) The MSA500 is not compatible with any 100 series either

Unfortunately the configuration you have can be compared to adding Monster Truck wheels to a 68 VW Beetle.

Below is the list of the MSA500 compatible servers:
Server Compatibility
ML330 G2 (Direct Attached and RSO configurations only)
ML330 G3 (Direct Attached and RSO configurations only)
ML350 G2 (Direct Attached and RSO configurations only)
ML350 G3 (Clustering, Direct Attached and RSO configurations)
ML370 G2 (Clustering, Direct Attached and RSO configurations)
ML370 G3 (Clustering, Direct Attached and RSO configurations)
DL360 G2 (Clustering, Direct Attached and RSO configurations)
DL360 G3 (Clustering, Direct Attached and RSO configurations)
DL380 G2 (Clustering, Direct Attached and RSO configurations)
DL380 G3 (Clustering, Direct Attached and RSO configurations)
DL560 (Clustering, Direct Attached and RSO configurations)
DL580 (Clustering, Direct Attached and RSO configurations)
DL580 G2 (Clustering, Direct Attached and RSO configurations)
DL740 (Clustering and Direct Attached configurations)
DL760 (Clustering and Direct Attached configurations)
DL760 G2 (Clustering and Direct Attached configurations)

Smart Array 532 is needed, don't know and not sure if the 5300 will be supported.
