ML 310 G5 raid controller dismounting raid component

We have a client with an ML 310 G5. The server is running windows 2003 and has two raid arrays connected to the onboard controller.

  • A mirror set with 2 x 250Gb sata disks
  • A mirror set with 2 x 500Gb sata disks

We've seen a problem where one of the disks in the second logical volume dismounts and is then remounted as a new volume, so we end up with a logical volume of 500gb degraded and a new third volume which is not a raid array but with contains the data found on the 500gb mirrored volume.

This has happened twice now. The first time I'm not sure of the circumstances but nothing catastrophica had happened - like an abrupt power cut. This time the system was rebooted cleanly by the client. There are no errors or alerts from windows in the eventlog other than the two messages saying that the volume has degraded.

All we get is event log messages with:

  • Logical drive is degraded: controller 1, logical drive 2 ("Array2").
  • Logical drive failed: controller 1, logical drive 3.

I downloaded the latest Support Pack and the disk controllers do not need updating, meaning I'm running the latest stable array drivers.

Anyone got any suggestions?
