ML 350 G3 Logical drive number change

Hello, we would like to add an array and create a logical drive in the new array.
We need it to be recognized as drive 0 by the bios (and Windows OS ).
It seems that you cannot change logical drives IDs in the ACU.
So i want to try this :
-Power down server
-remove all drives
-clear smart array configuration in ACU
-create new array and logical disk (will be created as drive 0)
-Import previously removed array ( the logical disk inside will get ID 1 )

Is this plan right ?
Thanks for replying.

Hi!

It is true that it is impossible to change logical drive order in SA controllers, only thing you can do is backup data, delete logical drives, arrays and recreate them in required order, and then restore data.

I donâ t cleary understand what do you think with â Import previously removed arrayâ

I din't ever try (heard about such possibility), but if you have many arrays, you can boot controller with only drives from one array, run ACU, delete missing arrays and logical drives from configuration (do it with each arrays drive set), then insert array which required to become first array, boot controller, then power off, and add arrays (drives set) in required order (for each arrayâ s drive set one pow

Rodrigo,

If it is going to be on a second controller, you could try changing the boot controller order.

Your plan might work. It goes without saying, get a good backup.

Your steps fine
Power down Server
Remove Array A with all Physical Drives.
Add new Drives to Server
Create Array A and Install O/S
After make sure all up and running
Latest Firmware for Array Controller, latest Drive and ACU
Power down server and add previously used drives to following bays
At Post you will get message Drive Position has been changed, accept Updates
Older Array A will take spot for Array B and ACU automatically will update it.
