ML 350 G3 USB bootable?

I have an ML 350 G3 (and several DL360's and DL380's ..also G3) that I would like to be able to boot the OS from USB (flash drives).

Is it possible to boot up any of these servers via a USB flash drive with an embedded OS?

If yes, how?

Thanks in advance.

If the OS image of the USB is bootable then you can boot from it.
Set the boot order in the BIOS.

Use the HP SmartStart when deploying the OS.

OK.
In the BIOS (with and without the USB key/flash drive), I don't see anything in the boot ordering for the USB device.

By deploy the OS via SmartStart, do you mean I need to write the embedded OS to the USB drive with SmartStart?

I ask because, the 2 OS's I intend to use from the USB flash drives are Linux-based and BSD-based (VMWare ESXi 3.5 and FreeNAS).

What should I be looking for? ...or is it possible I have something turned off/disabled?

Thank you,
