Re: ML 350 G5 over heating with Solaris 10 installation

Hi,

How did you determine that the server is overheating?

Have you recently removed the processor? Thermal paste should be re-applied if you did so.

For the DIMM indicator you need to reduce the RAM config to a couple modules, then swap/add modules to narrow down a possible culprit.

Good luck!

Hi..

Which generation does this ML350 server belongs to. Is this G4/G5/G6 server.

What is the internal Health Led Indication.

Re: ML 350 G5 over heating with Solaris 10 installation

Sorry its ML350 G5..

When you say server is rebooting.. what is the frequency of rebooting.. is it rebooting in POST or once its boot to the OS level.

If it is rebooting in POST then i would suggest you to keep the server in RBSU by pressing F9 key and check if still server is rebooting.

To isolate, login to iLO and check for the IML messages, this may give you the cause for reboot if server restarting for overheating or for memory errors. You can also check the temperatures in ILO.

Did you apply the firmware and Smartstart DVDs?

Re: ML 350 G5 over heating with Solaris 10 installation

Hi all thanks for the replays
here is a quick summary

I re configured the raid

loaded the solaris 10 cd
loaded the driver for HP
the installation proceeded
on reboot the red light no 2 went on,
i opened the cover and saw the lights at the RAM bank were amber
i powered off completely
re powered and same problem
on re boot after abut 1 hour, solaris said the hdd controller was over heating,
I powered totally and went home

Day two took out all RAM
inserted more at each reboot

now 16GB of RAM is not in machine
I still have to test it

And the ML350 had been running over night with another 4 installs of solaris 10 plus two raid re-configurations,
and no problems ......

this problem is very inconsistant
