ML 350 G6 memory combination

Hi,

I have a Proliant ML 350G6 with 4GB of ram in two 2GB bank. They are installed in channel 1 an channel 2, slot 3 and slot 6. I'd like to have 8GB of memory adding only more two 2GB DIMM's, is this possible? Can I have a channel with two DIMM's and the other channel with only one DIMM ?

Looking at this page I'm not sure: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01727710

Thanks,

Edgar Santos

Sure can! But it may not be optimal method of interleaved memory access. you can even have unbalance numa nodes (cpu1 has 64gb, cpu2 has 8gb) and it will work, but how well is the question!

I tend to stick to the same size dimms for all channels from the same makers purchased at the same time for optimal performance!

Thanks for your reply.

This server is running Windows 2012 Essentials with two SQL 2008 express, so I think 8GB would be engough.

Re: ML 350 G6 memory combination

yes it can be enough

It is not required, but it is recommended to load the channels similarly if possible
