ML 370 / Smart Array 642 / RAID 1 / ID 1 slot not booting

Hi All, I have ML370 with 2* 36GB RAID 1 (Slot ID 0 &1), 4* 72GB RAID 5.
Mirror status is OK, and when I shutdown the system and remove the Disk in ID0 slot to simulate a disk failure, system doesn't boot.
I have 642 Array controller BIOS 1.92 & System BIOS P28-05/01/2004. Could anyone help.

Thanks in advance.

Re: ML 370 / Smart Array 642 / RAID 1 / ID 1 slot not booting

What message you have when try to boot without ID0 disk?
P.S. 1.92 firmware version of SmartArray 642 is very old, you need to use at least 2.48 version

"The firmware update, Version 2.48, contains critical bug fixes and is the minimum version required."

Post your result. It would be sad if this was a firmware "bug". For the situation you created should function. There should be no reason why the boot is being disrupted by removing one of the mirrored set.
May be we should look at the boot/OS and not the hardware? Describe your "system doesn't boot".

Re: ML 370 / Smart Array 642 / RAID 1 / ID 1 slot not booting

Hi,

We have upgraded the Firmware on the 642 Controller to 2.58, and we are able to boot from Disk in ID 1 slot.

Thank you for the reply, it was really helpful.
