ML 570 PCI-E slots

We need to use two PCI-Express x8 devices at full speed in a ML 570 server. Is it possible to use two HP x4/x8 Bus Expanders to convert two of the PCI-E slots from x4 into x8?\

Any suggestions most welcome

Re: ML 570 PCI-E slots

Just double checking: are you talking about the ML570 G4?

If that's the case, then yes, you can have up to three PCI-E x8 slots:

"The x4-x8 PCI Express Bus Expander is a half-length expansion board. When installed into a x4 PCI Express expansion slot, the x4-x8 PCI Express bus expander converts the adjacent x4 PCI Express expansion slot into a x8 PCI Express expansion slot.
NOTE: The HP ProLiant ML570 G4 Server can support up to three x4-x8 PCI Express bus expander cards. The card can only be installed in expansion slots 6, 8, and 10."

Rgds.

I was confused because the on-line Configuration tool only permits to select one of those x4 to x8 expanders.

The On-Line (a.k.a. Enterprise) Configurator is unfortunately not a bug free tool.

I found QuickSpec (Product Bulletin) far more reliable:
