then hangs....nothing. i cannot boot to floppy, i cannot boot Smartsuite, i cannoyt even select F10..

Re: ML 570 wont boot

hi

try this first:

put position 6 of the system-maintenance switch to ON and cold start your system.

this will erase the nv-ram (all your hw settings) - but it will keep your data. so it is safe.

this has help quite often in such a situation as it resolves hw conflicts.

then set back the switch to OFF and cold start again.

----------------------------------------

if it does not help remove all pci cards (except your raid controller) and repeat the steps above.

best regards

Re: ML 570 wont boot

Hi,

try to boot server with bare minumum hardware configuration the try the maintaince switch option to clear cmos/nvram and then check. It will help. since you have two processors try out with one first. What about the front panel leds. and on you pheriphal board there should be numerical representation on lcd which will tell about any internal part failure n server. Look for any of the following options to help your self to resolve the issu.

Re: ML 570 wont boot

Many thanks for the replies.
Unfortunatly the problem persists

I have removed the two NICs( only teh 5302 is left )
removed one processor
set S6 on and then off
minimum amount of RAM is left in .

there are no harware messages on the LED segment display on the daughter board.

any further ideas please??

Re: ML 570 wont boot

Hi Craig,

I wonder what happen if you remove the RAID card as well (absolutely bare minimum)... power up without the RAID controller, and I think it should still at least bootable from a floppy diskette?

Re: ML 570 wont boot

RAID controller removed... still only gets as far as before..

scans the SCSI bus... nothing detected...
new line and then sits there..

will not boot to floppy , will not give me an opportunity to enter the BIOS>

Hmmm i have a bios ROMPAQ image, do you think 1,4,5,6 on and load the new ROMPAQ?

Rgds

Hi Craig,

>"i have a bios ROMPAQ image, do you think 1,4,5,6 on and load the new ROMPAQ?"

Sorry, I did not understand 1,4,5,6 is about...

I wonder if you can reset the BIOS (Ernst's suggestion), unplug all ribbons in the machine (floppy/CDrom/SCSI), boot it up, and see if you get a different message...
