Hiya,
Im looking to see if the cpu in this server can be upgraded, I don't need HPe to support it (its out of warranty anyways). Socket is 1151, currently its running a E3-1225v5. I was hoping to I could drop a E-21xx in there, six-core.
Is there any info on this or maybe someone has experience?
Thanks!

SolutionHi@Anonymous,
E3-1225v5 appears to be only supported option from E3-1200v5 processor family based on quickspecs
https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=c04922941
Seems like it is "Intel 100 series chipset(Skylake)" limitation [Intel processors which uses LGA 1151 revision 1 socket]
Which support max 4 cores.
LGA 1151 rev 2
While Coffee Lake shares the same socket as Skylake and Kaby Lake, this revision of LGA 1151 is electrically incompatible with 100 and 200 series CPUs.
The 300 Series chipsets were introduced along with Coffee Lake processors, which use the LGA 1151 socket as well.
so , "E-21xx , six-core" will not be supported on LGA 1151 revision 1 but may work on Coffee Lake i.e on 300 Series chipset.
