ML110, 3 drives and RAID

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a ML110 G3 server which already includes one factory installed harddrive (80 Gb SATA).
This 80Gb disk will not be sufficient so I was thinking of putting in two 250Gb disks and use RAID 1 for data-protection.

Reading the forums I'm a bit confused wheter this configuration will work since enabling RAID in the BIOS will disable some SATA ports.
I must admit that I'm not that familiar how SATA works, so I hope someone can help me out here.

Kind regards,

Re: ML110, 3 drives and RAID

Maurice,
ML110 G3 have only 2 ports SATA embedded
controller in basic configuration.
If you want to use more than 2 SATA drives
in ML110 G3 you need to buy HP 6-Port SATA RAID Controller and bracket conversion option kit.
But you can buy ML110 G3 with two 250 GB SATA drives (or even 500 Gb drives) INSTEAD of 80 Gb SATA drive. In this case you don't need any additional SATA controller and you can create RAID-1 with SATA embedded
controller.
