ML110 CPU Compatibility + VT

Hi all, I purchased an ML110 with hopes of running VMWare ESX for 32-bit and 64-bit OS's, I obviously didnt do my research properly because I later found out that I can't VM 64-bit because the D915 CPU in the ML110 does not have VT support.

So I was thinking of just upgrading the CPU and putting this D915 in my personal PC. But I obviously need a CPU that's compatible with the ML110 and that also has VT support.
Can anyone tell me which CPU will solve my problems?

Thanks in advance.

Re: ML110 CPU Compatibility + VT

ok cool

according to quickspecs you will see the support processor list

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12577_div/12577_div.HTML#Standard%20Features

now after so research I think the ones you need are:

Dual-Core Intel├В┬о Xeon├В┬о processor 3050 (2.13 GHz, 1066MHz FSB)*
Dual-Core Intel├В┬о Xeon├В┬о processor 3040 (1.86 GHz, 1066MHz FSB)

check why?
Dual-Core Intel├В┬о Xeon├В┬о Processor 3000 Series
http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/asmo-na/eng/products/server/processors/3000/feature/index.htm

now the 3050
http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLABZ

and 3040
http://processorfinder.intel.com/Details.aspx?sSpec=SL9TW

see both support Execute Disable Bit and VT the ones needed for virtual machines

I hope this can help you

Re: ML110 CPU Compatibility + VT

Thanks a lot, looks like those are the ones. It's a shame I have to downgrade as I was hoping for even an upgrade to something like 920/930/940.

I guess I can stick this D915 in another PC I have, but im not sure about the compatibility. What type of mobo would I need to be able to use this CPU?

Thanks for the assistance.
