ML110 G2 physical memory differs from extended memory

Hello,
I know there is always a slight difference between the reported physical & extended memory, but this time the difference is 1/2 GB. I have 4 identical 1GB chips in a new ML110 G2 3.0 proc. If I put in 3ea 1gb chips I get about the same ~3gb, If I put in 2ea 1gb chips I get about the same ~2gb, but with 4 in I lose a lot of memory available to windows.
Bios screen:
physical memory: 4096 mb
extended memory: 3536896 kb
Anyone have an explanation?
Thanks
-Chad

Re: ML110 G2 physical memory differs from extended memory

Chad,
Read this customer advisory:
"Not All Physical Memory May Be Reported By The Operating System On Certain HP ProLiant Servers"
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=PSD_EL041214_CW01
Although advisory doesn't mention ML110
I think it is same idea.
You need to use PAE switch. Note that for windows 2000 standard edition you cannot use PAE switch. For windows 2003 standard edition PAE supported from windows 2003 sp1.
