ML110 G5 AHCI support?
Our ML110 G5 has the latest BIOS O15 2009.10.09
If we enable SATA RAID, a PCI class code of
010400 is reported, which is fine.
If we disable SATA RAID, a PCI class code of
01018F is reported.
The motherboard is using an Intel 82801IR aka
ICH9R. If you check the Intel datasheet for
this chip, you will note that as well as RAID
mode, it also supports AHCI mode.
(See pages 54 and 556 of 316972.pdf)
But it appears that the HP BIOS is not
offering the option to program the ICH9R
chip to support AHCI mode, which would show
as reporting a PCI class code of 010601.
It is very disappointing that HP are not
supporting AHCI mode on this server, when
clearly the functionality is available
on the ICH9R chip.
I would like to use my ML110 G5 for to run
the OpenSolaris OS, which ideally needs AHCI
support in the SATA controller, otherwise it
reverts to the less functional pci-ide driver.
