ML110 G5 Maximum SATA Drive Size

I understand there is a published maximum disk size limit of 4 x 500GB SATA disks, however does this limit only apply when creating a RAID configuration?

I have 2 x 500GB disks in RAID1 config for the boot volume. Can I add 2 more disks larger than 500GB if I do not create a RAID with those disks?

SATA1= 500GB (RAID w/SATA2)
SATA2= 500GB (RAID w/SATA1)
SATA3= >500GB (non-RAID)
SATA4= >500GB (non-RAID)

Thanks,
Ken

Hi,

the server specs alone(the controller) don't support bigger HDDs. There is a limit of the controller again that he can't handle more than 4 internal disks, so if in the future new controller firmware supports bigger drives, you will be able to add 4 x 750Gb for example.
I don't think it depends on if they are in an array config or not, it is only a controller restriction, as of the above config with 500Gbs it will function in both RAID & non RAID config

If I didn't understand you right, sorry :)
