ML110 G6 support for SATA III 6Gb/s

Hi,

I am looking to install a SATA III SSD drive in my ML110.

<http://www.dabs.com/products/ocz-technology-240gb-agility-3-ssd-series-sata-6gb-s-2-5--solid-state-drive-7HR3.html?refs=56350000-450300000-52080000&src=3>

I dont think that that the ML110 supports 6Gb/s transfer but not quite sure.

If it doesnt then would i be able to just install a PCIe SATA III carde like this one:

<http://www.dabs.com/products/startech-com-6gbps-esata-controller-card-76PQ.html?q=sata%206G%20card%20pci&src=16>

Thanks,

Shaun

Re: ML110 G6 support for SATA III 6Gb/s

Hi,

if you want to run a supported configuration (meaning you get support from HP) you need to run equipment that is supported. Those can be found in the quickspecs for each server.

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13477_na/13477_na.HTML

Is the one for the ML110 G6.

The built-in card is a B110i.

More info about that card is here: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/arraycontrollers/smartarrayb110i/

I couldn't see if it's 3G or 6G, but if not you could get another controller. However the quickspeces doesn't list any non-RAID SAS/SATA controllers, only the P212. That card only does 3G in SATA anyway.
However, in the quickspecs you can buy 3G disks for the SATA model and 6G disks if you have a SAS model. Probably the B110i only do 3G?

That said, maybe the PCIe SATA III card works and maybe somebody who has tried it will see this post.

Re: ML110 G6 support for SATA III 6Gb/s

Thanks for your research.

I'm not running a supported solution and dont have a need for RAID so happy to go off-pite if required.

Sounds like i can take a chance on the PCIe card but worst case i'll just have to fall back to 3Gb/s transfer using the built in controller.

Cheers,

Yeah, HP are a bit famous for being a bit sticky about what you can put in their servers.

But as a start I'd make sure that the PCIe slot in the ML110 G6 is what the PCIe card wants (amount of channels, length, etc).
