ML110, how much Xeon can it run?

Hi,

I have recently acquired a ML110 G4 with a Pentium D 820. The specifications state the best processor it can use is a Xeon 3050.

Since it has the Intel 3000 chipset can it run other 3000 sequence Xeons with the same FSB and power consumption, like the 3070, or even those needing the 1333 MHz FSB (e.g. 3085, E3110)?

TIA.

Hi there :)

Well... you can try, but if it is not in the quickspecs, maybe it won't work...

Re: ML110, how much Xeon can it run?

Hi,

seems like you already have read the quickspecs. If you want to try another CPU that is not listed it will probably not work. For the server to support a CPU, it needs additional code in the System ROM(even for different stepping of the same CPU). When Intel releases new CPU or stepping, a part of microcode is added to the System ROM so the CPU can function properly. Since only these processors are in Quickspecs, this means that only they are supported from the Sys ROM and only they are tested for proper function...

Thanks for the prompt responses.

Then, for safety, I will go with a 3050.

Regards.
